Model Portfolio photography at the studio in Canterbury
You’ll find plenty of examples of location-based model shoots in Kent & London on the website but for a test shoot or starter shoot we tend to this type of model portfolio at the studio in Canterbury. The other great thing about working in the studio is you don’t have to worry about the weather and you’ve got access to a range of facilities in comfortable surroundings.
If you’re an aspiring model looking to get signed by an agency you don’t really need a full-blown portfolio. If you’re looking to set up as an independent and make use of one of the online directories such as Purpleport, Model Mayhem or Pure Storm, then it will help you to put together a variety of looks in an online portfolio.
Intermediate models sometimes want to fill a gap in their portfolio or promote a new profile picture (a change of hair colour or style being a common reason) but newer models only really need 2-3 looks – beauty, fashion and editorial – to get them started. That’s a relatively small investment in your online CV, not a huge and expensive printed portfolio. It’s also a more gentle way of easing yourself into it, especially if you’ve never been photographed professionally before.
What sort of styles does a test shoot involve? Usually 2 out of the following looks:
Look one – “beauty” – detailed shots of eyes, mouth and hair to highlight the contours of the face.
Look two – “fashion” – 3/4 to full length to show a bit of movement, personality and basic posing.
Look three – “editorial” – slightly off-beat or documentary shot.
